Welsch, Lynn B. Silver Fire Aftermath 12"w x 12"h. 2024 All Rights Reserved |
By Lynn B. Welsch.
This quilt made for a Southwest Women's Fiber Arts Collective challenge. It is based on a photo that I took while hiking with friends in the Hillsboro peak area a year after the Silver Fire.
Welsch, Lynn B. Remember Colorforms? 30"w x 30"h 2024. All rights Reserved |
By Lynn B. Welsch.
Colorforms were introduced in the 1950s. They are colorful geometric shapes of die-cut vinyl that stick to a background board or other surfaces. The possibility for different arrangements of the shapes was endless. It was my first experience with art improvisation.
This piece was made for the 4 Common Corners challenge Improvisation at the Corners.
Welsch, Lynn B. Pinwheel Palooza 12"w x 12"h 2024. All Rights Reserved |
By Lynn B. Welsch.
Initially I wanted to create flowers with overlapping elements. But they ended up looking more like pinwheels to me! The piece is quilted with metallic threads, and all the spirals in the background are hand stitched.
The quilt was made as a donation for the 2024 Studio Art Quilters Association online auction.

Welsch, Lynn B. Yellow Boat 26" W x 30" H 2023. All Rights Reserved |
By Lynn B. Welsch.
I love visiting a college friend on Deer Isle, Maine every summer. I used a photo taken near my friends home to create this quilt for the 4 Common Corners Art Quilter's group challenge Water.
Welsch, Lynn B. Alegre Joy 33" W x 23" H 2023. All Rights Reserved |
By Lynn B. Welsch.
I started this quilt at the Alegre Art Quilting Retreat at Gateway Canyons Resort in Colorado in a class with Terrie Hancock Mangat.
We did a plein air painting of the palisade there and then developed our art quilt from our painting. It is fused using commercial batiks, and heavily machine quilted.

This is a loose interpretation of a photo of flowers that I took in Door County, Wisconsin.
It was hand dye painted, machine quilted, and heavily hand beaded. It was made for the 2023 SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) online fundraising auction.
