Welsch. Lynn B.  Desert Glass  29" W x 38" H  2022. All Rights Reserved

By Lynn B. Welsch.

I was inspired by photos I took of an exhibit of Dale Chihuly's glass works at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, AZ.

I made this piece for the 4Common Corners Art Quilters Group challenge theme of Transparency.

Welsch. Lynn B. Shades of the Southwest 20" W x 38" H  2022. All Rights Reserved

 By Lynn B. Welsch.

I was inspired by an upside down watercolor drip painting that I did in the
Watercolor to Quilt class taught by Katie Pasquini Masopust at Empty Spools Seminars at Asilomar in Pacific Grove, California in March of 2022.

Welsch. Lynn B.  Colorado Side Trip  27" W x 21" H  2022. All Rights Reserved

By Lynn B. Welsch.

While traveling to a quilting seminar, we took a side trip through the mountains to Telluride. I took many photographs then and thought this scene would be perfect for the 4 Common Corners Snow and Ice challenge.

Created for the 4 Common Corners Art Quilter’s theme The Way We Were. It conjures up my formative years of growing up on the 60’s. I fondly remember the bright colors, symbols, and changing times.
Welsch, Lynn B.  The Unbroken Code  40" w x 21" h  2021. All Rights Reserved

By Lynn B. Welsch.

The 4 Common Corners Art Quilters Cryptology group theme was challenging. I decided to represent the only code that the Japanese did not break in World War II. The Navajo Code Talkers created and used it.

Welsch, Lynn B.  Monhegan Island Respite 27" w x 33" h  2021. All Rights Reserved

By Lynn B. Welsch.

Monhegan Island, 11 miles off the coast of Maine, is one of my favorite and peaceful places  to visit.

When the challenge of Oasis was presented to the members of the 4 Common Corners Art Quilt Group, my first thought was sitting in an Adirondack chair on the lawn of the Island Inn and looking out over the ocean.

Welsch, Lynn B. Tina's Toys 20" w x 26" h 2021. All Rights Reserved

By Lynn B. Welsch.

With my friend Tina's permission, I photographed her suitcase full of the toys she was selling at an art fair.

I thought they were the perfect subject for a whimsical quilt! This quilt was made for the 4 Common Corners Art Quilt group for the Whimsy challenge of 2021.

Welsch, Lynn B.  Stairway to Hope 12" w x 12" h 2021. All Rights Reserved

This is a whole cloth quilt based on my photo taken at a national park in Utah. I used Jacquard resist and Dyna Flo paints and it is heavily quilted. It was made as a donation for the 2021 Studio Art Quilt Associates on-line auction.

Welsch, Lynn B.    New Mexico Chiles   34" w x 24" h  2021. All Rights Reserved

By Lynn B. Welsch.

This quilt was made for the 4Common Corners art quilt group challenge called Heat. When I thought of the word "heat," chiles immediately came to my mind. They represent NuMex Chiles with 0-90,000 Scoville Heat Units.

It is a whole cloth piece made with Jacquard resist and Dynaflo paints and machine quilted.

Welsch, Lynn B.    Start of Silver Fire   26" w x 50" h  2021. All Rights Reserved

By Lynn B. Welsch.

A lightning strike started the June 2013 Silver Fire in the Black Range.

The view is from our backyard in Mimbres, NM. The fire quickly made its own weather and burned 138,698 acres. The monsoon rains finally extinguished the fire.

The quilt was made for the SAQA New Mexico challenge called Weather or Not.
