Tuzigoot Pueblo Ruins, Detail |
By Lynn B. Welsch.
In Arizona's Verde Valley are the remains of a 110-room hilltop pueblo, now preserved in the Tuzigoot National Monument. It was built by the Singua people on a limestone and sandstone ridge between the 11th and 13th centuries. The pueblo was abandoned about 300-400 years ago, most likely due to overcrowding or resource depletion.
Made for the 4 Common Corners Art Quilters group challenge theme Abandoned.

My late friend Jo Diggs and I hiked to this spot in Freeport, Maine and enjoyed watching a pair of Osprey dive for fish in front of us and bring them to chicks in their nest in the highest tree on the island.

When driving home, I have a wonderful view of the Mimbres Valley and the Black Range Mountains when coming down Acklin Hill. It is especially beautiful in the fall when the Cottonwood trees along the Mimbres River are cloaked in stunning yellow and gold colors.
